ANATOLY BELY & MIKHAIL BORZYKIN
Based on the novel by Artur Solomonov
London Premiere · One Night Only · The Tabernacle
A new rock-theatre production bringing together acclaimed actor Anatoly Bely and Russian rock legend Mikhail Borzykin, frontman of the iconic band Televizor.
Natan, based on the novel by Artur Solomonov, is a sharp, darkly comic story written in the shadow of an approaching war.
The novel was due to be published in Moscow in March 2022. But history intervened — and a work of political satire suddenly began to feel disturbingly close to reality.
At the heart of the story are the extraordinary adventures of Natan Eipelbaum and Tugrik, whose journey takes them through the temptations of power, ideology and political reinvention. They seize control and repeatedly change their convictions — becoming pacifists, militarists, fascists and liberals as the world around them shifts.
On stage, Anatoly Bely transforms between multiple characters, while songs performed by Mikhail Borzykin become an integral part of the drama, entering into a live dialogue with the characters and the story itself.
Intellectual satire. Live rock music. Political absurdity. And a story that has become far more timely than its author could have imagined.
Following the performance, there will be a Q&A with Anatoly Bely, Mikhail Borzykin and Artur Solomonov.
Copies of Artur Solomonov’s books will also be available to purchase at the venue.
The performance is in Russian.
