On 12 November, London audiences will have the opportunity to experience Caligula, the acclaimed production by the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre, one of Ukraine’s most celebrated theatres, at Broadway Theatre in London.
Premiered at the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre on 5 July 2022, Ivan Uryvskyi’s acclaimed production of Albert Camus’ Caligula presents a powerful contemporary interpretation of one of the twentieth century’s most celebrated plays.
Inspired by the historical emperor Caligula, the production explores tyranny, dictatorship, power and morality through striking visual imagery and an uncompromising theatrical language.
With Petro Bogomazov’s award-winning set design and an outstanding cast, the performance invites audiences to reflect on the abuse of power, surveillance, fear and human responsibility.
The production opened the 63rd MESS International Theatre Festival in Sarajevo in 2023, where it received two prestigious awards, including the Reihan Demirdžić Award for Best Young Actor and the “Sound of MESS” Award.
